Every day with my little one is a new experience, and a reminder of how sweet and simple life really is. Even with yukky diapers.

Teeth!!

Well, she's finally got teeth! Her first tooth came in while we were in Jamaica, her second came in shortly afterwards and I just saw her third tooth starting to pop through. I can always tell because there's often a small pooling of blood at the bottom of her gum where the tooth is about to pop through. (yuck, i know). She's also had a cold, with alot of congestion and a runny nose. I switched her formula from milk based to soy based which has helped quite a bit with her congestion. I've also decided that I'm not going to start her on cow's milk, but rather calcium fortified soy milk, full fat. Since she has no objection to soy formula, she shouldn't have any issues with soy milk. I just don't feel right about cow's milk. I might try goat's milk at some time, but for now, soy it is.
We had her first birthday party last Saturday! It was great, although I was kind of stressed. I should probably let people help me more, but you know.... if you want something done right.... (!) I made two cakes, using date sugar and maple sugar crystals. The chocolate cake didn't turn out so well, since I put all of the cake batter in one of the silicone baking forms...oops! So we had to turn to Betty Crocker for a little help there! But the mousse and the ganache turned out wonderfully, and the pumpkin spice cake was just as delicious.
Mom and Ron came out, and we really enjoyed their stay. It's always such a bummer when they leave, but we hope to see them soon. Cassidy had the time of her life playing with Cole,Morgan, Charlie and Deanna. All the kids, including Mark and Jo gathered in Cassidy's room, and she just had a ball! Morgan and Cole were dragging her around in the little home made "train" that Eric made out of laudry baskets. It was so cute! He tied my bathrobe ties to three laundry baskets, put Cassidy in the "caboose" with toys and her blanket, and drug her around the house. It was hilarious! Cole got in the middle "car" at one point, and we had a few spills, but of course nothing that caused anything more than a whole lot of laughter. Cassidy got some amazing toys, and everyone who participated in the bead gathering did a wonderful job. She got some beautiful beads, and some wonderful sentiments and wishes for her in the future. I'll work on taking pictures of all of the beads for her scrapbook, and I'll past all of the notes next to the pictures of the beads. I mean, let's be realistic, her necklace may not last forever, but the memories will be once I put them in her scrapbook!

BACK FROM JAMAICA!!!

Wow, it's been such a long time since I've updated this site, I apologize for those of you who've been looking for some new info! I'm still trying to upload the Jamaica pics to Cassidy's website, but no luck so far. Cassidy did an amazing job in Jamaica, all things considered. We spent a total of 5 nights in Montego Bay, at the lovely Ritz Carlton. The weather was beautiful, and the water was actually 85 degrees! We couldn't let Cassidy hang out on the beach for too long though, because she'd just want to eat the sand, and the salt water didn't feel so good in her eyes. But we did take her in the ocean for the first time, which was very cool. I think she thought it was a giant bathtub! We mainly hung out at the pool, with lots of sunscreen and hats. Her ears were bugging her from the 4 (yes FOUR) full days of traveling, but we gave her a little decongestant and that seemed to help. It's tough traveling with an 11 month old; we're putting her in adult situations, and you can't expect to have her behave any other way than a baby. But she really did well. Dinners could be a challenge, with all the yelling and throwing of food, but we managed.
The people at the Ritz were amazingly accomodating. When you stay at a resort like that, you forget you're actually in a developing country. But Sally and I took a ride downtown, and we were reminded pretty quickly! People were literally yelling at us to come into their stores and buy their stuff. It was crazy! But we're back safe and sound now, and preparing for Cassidy's first birthday party. She cut her first tooth, upper right one, and her upper left one is coming in now. So she's having some trouble sleeping, and really just wants to hold our hand throughout the night. I tend to let her but Eric feels strongly that she should stay in her crib. We're working on a compromise, where I still get to snuggle down with her to put her to sleep, then we transfer her to her crib. That way I get some precious time with her, and snuggling with her is so special and sweet. I think I'm going to start a video diary for her, just talking about her life and what she means to us. That way, she'll have a visual record of us while we're still young!! hahahaha!
