Every day with my little one is a new experience, and a reminder of how sweet and simple life really is. Even with yukky diapers.

Oh, and did I mention she's walking????

Yes, it's true! She took her very first steps about two weeks ago (sorry, I've been away at a sales conference...) and she's now cruising around with confidence. She'll still crawl some of the time, which is great since I love how she bops her head from side to side when she crawls...so cute! But she's toddling around, and I guess I can't stop her from growing up. Her sign language is progressing well too. She's learned a couple of new signs, including water, and thank you, but she mainly uses the sign for "more". She's definitely got the concept down, and applies it not only when she wants more of something, but when she wants anything in general. It's great to be able to communicate with her. She loves music, and daddy bought her a really fun Elmo cd, and she'll point to the cd player and make the sign for more, then shake her head and do a little dance!! It's the funniest thing!! So I put the music on and she gets a huge smile on her face, and starts to wiggle-dance! I love it!!
The other huge milestone is that she's gotten more teeth! Her two bottom teeth are coming in now, and to my dismay, it appears she has the same crooked right bottom tooth that I had before braces. But of course these are her baby teeth, so you never know. Poor baby, she's still got this cold and cough, even though we've taken her to both the pediatrician and her naturopath. I think she just keeps getting it from us. We seem to be passing it back and forth to each other. So her sleep has been a little bit off, mainly due to all the big developmental milestones. Learning to walk is a big one, cutting teeth is pretty significant, and to top it all off, she said "water" yesterday!!! It was sooo amazing! I was standing at the refrigerator getting a glass of water, and just out of the blue she looked at me and said "water". Of course it sounded more like "dadder", but she was clearing communicating that I was getting some water!!! I was soooo excited!!! Pure genius! And finally, for the crowning acheivement...she's started engaging in pretend play!! Now let me emphasize how completely cool this is; pretend play is something that three year olds do...because they have a sense of themselves vs. others. At her age, she only has a sense of herself and the world revolving around her. But when I got home from my sales conference (which, by the way, apparantly pissed her off to no end...) I was sitting down with her, and she pretended to take something out of her mouth, and put it on my hand so I could eat it!! She also nods her head "yes", (something else most babies don't do...!) so I knew that was what she wanted me to do! I just am blown away by this child!!
She's pretty cranky and whiney right now, because the poor thing is just going through so much. But for all that's happening with her, she's doing amazingly well. I cuddle down with her every night to help her get to sleep, and she literally falls asleep every night holding my hand, so that tells me that right now, she just needs a little extra TLC. We transition her to her crib after she falls asleep, and she's much more comfortable there, since she tends to toss and turn, and I think there's too many pillows in our bed for her comfort. So we're keeping our fingers crossed that her cold and cough will go away soon, and I'll update again after her one year check up, on the 11th.
